What this calculator measures

Plug in how long you spent doing nothing in a fight, or how late your major cooldowns went, and see the DPS loss expressed as a percentage of your potential output. The math is straightforward: every second of downtime is a second that's not contributing to your damage total. Late cooldowns are the same idea applied to your biggest hitters.

The point isn't the exact number. It's knowing whether the parse you were unhappy with was 8% off because of one death, or 25% off because of a fundamental rotation issue. That changes whether you replay the log or move on.

Common patterns this catches

  • The death you blamed for everything. You died at 60% boss health and finished at 70% of expected DPS. Was the death the whole story? The calculator tells you the actual loss from 25 seconds of downtime. Spoiler: often not as much as you thought.
  • The cooldown you delayed by 15 seconds. Holding cooldowns "for the pull" or for adds usually costs more than it saves. Plug in your delay and see the math for your CD's share of your total damage.
  • Forced movement vs. real loss. Mechanics that pull you off the boss for 4 seconds happen 6 times a fight. The cumulative loss is real and quantifiable once you stack the seconds up. Helps you decide if a different positioning strategy is worth working on.
  • Comparison after a parse improvement. You went from 92nd to 95th percentile on a boss. Was the difference uptime improvement, gear, or play? The uptime-loss math tells you what was structurally available.

What this doesn't cover

Buff uptime, target swaps, optimal multi-dotting, and other spec-specific complexity aren't modeled. The tool answers the "how much DPS did downtime cost me" question, not the "was my rotation optimal" question. For the second, log-analysis tools like WarcraftLogs and WowAnalyzer are the right call.
